WyBuild compatibility with .NET 7.0Answered

Hi. Have been using LimeLM and loving it.

Now I am looking at using wyBuild as well.

However, I am building a desktop application using .NET 7.0, and I see in the documentation that this software works with up to .NET 4.x, and I see that the latest update is from 2012.

Is this software still live, and can it be used with .NET 7.0? If it does, what will the impact on the user experience be; will they have to download and install both .NET 7.0 and .NET 4.0?

Thanks, cheers

Hello, until a few days ago there was a blog post announcing new arrivals for the end of 2023 or at most 2024, but now this blog post has disappeared.

There are many customers waiting for improvements and news regarding this software for many years. These improvements have not arrived yet, something can be announced but they take and take. It is understandable that it is a small company and they have to focus on products that are giving the company more profitability, which in this case is Lime.

WyBuild is magnificent, I still use it in my company today, but we have edited many things in the source code. Perhaps the main code where it is built can be released for the community to improve, but of course, there would be no income here.

If I have seen in the forum that I follow a lot, there are improvements in this regard with compression technology among others with Net Core.

You can keep waiting a long time, I've been like this since 2013 and I still haven't seen anything and I don't expect much either. The software works perfectly, things can be improved but for what we use, it works quite well but there is room for improvement in many things and it is true that we should improve in some things in technology. At the moment with the source code, we have corrected some things and over time it has improved, but going back to what we said before, we also need to improve the constructor to maximize the compatibility of everything.

*Do not use Automatic Updater since this component has become very obsolete and has caused many problems.

Try the trial version, download it and if you like it, purchase a license.

I found the blog entry. I am on a different device and was not able to find the article, here you can find the mention. You just have to wait and be patient.

Yes, a bunch of changes are coming. Yes, wyBuild (as it currently exists) is extremely unprofitable. It's used by a ton of companies both big and small, but it doesn't bring in enough money to pay a single junior developer with 0 experience. It never really has. Its development has *always* been subsidized by LimeLM profits.

And that's untenable, obviously.

So, yes, the next version of wyBuild (and wyUpdate) are coming (with a shift of focus to target a larger customer base). But it's not a priority. LimeLM takes priority. As does LicenseChest.

Hi. Have been using LimeLM and loving it.

I'm glad, that's great. We're proud of it.

However, I am building a desktop application using .NET 7.0, and I see in the documentation that this software works with up to .NET 4.x, and I see that the latest update is from 2012.

You can use wyUpdate with whatever programming language you want. Yes, .NET 4.x being installed on the machine is a prerequisite (for wyUpdate 2.x; 3.x, on the other hand will be a native app) but you can use wyUpdate with whatever dependencies you have.

Is this software still live, and can it be used with .NET 7.0?

Yes.

If it does, what will the impact on the user experience be; will they have to download and install both .NET 7.0 and .NET 4.0?

Yes, you can install both simultaneously.

Hi SymaFR and Wyatt. Thank you so much for your input and insights, I will give it a try then.
