Yes, you can host LimeLM on your own servers, but it's more expensive than our hosted plans (or wyUpdate, for that matter). The version of LimeLM you can run on your own servers is about equivalent to the Max plan of LimeLM (both in features and price).

Running high-speed, high-availability, activation servers is a lot of work. And there are a lot of moving parts. It's not as simple as plopping a Wordpress installation on a cheap PHP host. We only recommend hosting LimeLM on your own servers if you have at least one dedicated server admin.

The reason you can find alternatives to LimeLM at "bargain basement" prices, is because, well, these cheap competitors are crummy. We cover a few of the things our competitors mess up right here.

I appreciate the time and effort required to manage servers hosting applications with high-availability requirements, and this would not be a problem.

When you say that this way of working is similar in price to the 'Max' plan, is it that amount one-off or monthly? If monthly, is there a one-off fee option available?

It's yearly and you can choose to renew or not renew at the end of every year. Of course, if you don't renew then you're "stuck" on whatever version of LimeLM that came about before the contract length expired. Obviously we recommend renewing every year for the bug fixes, security fixes, support, feature additions, etc.

For most customers we recommend using the hosted version of LimeLM because it's cheaper and there's nothing to setup or manage (we handle it). If you're worried about price you can start on one of the smaller plans and move up as you need.

Thanks, I'll have a think about it. Could you personally quote me for the smallest yearly self-hosted package please?

I'm not worried about the cost so much, it's more that I like to have control of everything. I prefer to try and eliminate as many external factors/dependencies as much as possible.
