Cannot activate on Win Server 2016 (TLS error)Answered

Hi,

We have a problem with our customer. He is not able to activate the license key.

We are using the latest TA 4.4.4 library. The customer has Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview Standard Edition (build 17763).

They are able to access your webpage from Edge browser, but they receive TA_E_INET_TLS from activation.

They are using a restricted network with a firewall, and they opened port 443 to your web.

They have proceeded with every step recommended by you, but nothing has helped them, and we are out of ideas, how to help them.

They're using an out-of-date version of Windows. They should update to the latest version first. That will solve the problem.

They should *also* do it because it's a giant security risk to use an out-of-date version of Windows.

The solution to almost every problem is:

  1.  Update the OS (Windows in this case).
  2.  Update TA.

Hi Wyatt, thanks for “good” answer.

However, we just re-checked with the customer, and he is actually trying it on the Windows 2019 Server. (It seems, our OS detection is not working correctly now).

In that case, what would you suggest? 2019 seems quite a new version, and they have a problem with TLS after all.

PS - temporary solution, which seems to be working, for now, is an offline activation. However, they are using virtual machines, so we are afraid, they will lose the activation anytime :(

This TLS problem is because they’re not up-to-date. They should run Windows Update and install all pending updates (including optional ones).

Customer: I checked windows update and got message ‘You’re up to date’.

Do you have any other working solution for our customer? Are you aware of particular windows update, that could solve the problem with TLS connection error?
