Manual Activation Error (The Activation Response file is invalid)Answered

We have a customer whose IT randomly started blocking traffic to the wyDay servers for some reason; it happens from time to time. While we wait to get their IT to reply to us, we're trying to get the location up and running with our software; as there are trucks backing up outside the doors.

Usually, we do this with a short-duration manual activation. Today however, this isn't working. We get a TurboActivate error, “The Activation Response file is invalid. Use the unmodified file provided by <publisher_name> for this computer.” I'm exporting the .xml file from LimeLM and copying it over to the customer's computer. I've tried multiple times with TurboActivate v4.4.2 and v4.1.6. This is on a Windows 7 machine.

Answer

They can't use old request files or old response files. That both must be generated very recently.

So, have them generate a new request file. Have them send it to you. You send them a new response file.

And it goes without saying, the request / response files are machine specific.

Also, always use the latest version.

I'm remoted into the customer's computer. I generated both the request and response files this morning myself.

I'm back into the customer's computer. When I generate a ActivationRequest.xml file using TA v4.4.2, the date on the brand new file that is generated is 1/1/2015 3:18:24 AM. Even when I delete the file and regenerate it, or generate it in a different directory. The file is imported into LimeLM's dashboard without issue.

And, the computer thinks it's 2015… I'm sure THAT'S not a problem…

(Spoiler: it is!)
