Floating license server crashSolved

Hello, one our customers is reporting intermittent crashes of our Floating License server in AWS on Amazon Linux v2. It is based on TurboFloat server 4.0.9.7. We requested that they run it with gdb and send us the resulting log, which I've pasted below.

Thanks in advance for any help.-Alan

We'll look into this.

Hi Wyatt, have you had any luck with this?

If there's any other information we can provide that would help you resolve the problem please let me know.

Thank you.

We were able to reproduce (and fix) this crash on Linux. This is fixed in TFS 4.1

Thank you for the update. I see that 4.1 is not out yet -- do you have an idea of when it will be?

No hard date. We're working to get it out ASAP.

OK, thank you for the update. We look forward to the release. Until then, if there's a workaround we could send back to our customer, we'd be most appreciative.

A few workaround exist until we release TFS 4.1:

1. Use the TurboFloat Server on Windows (it does not suffer from this crash).

Or...

2. Make sure clients that connect to the TFS running on that Linux box cleanly connect and disconnect.

#1 is more foolproof (i.e. doesn't require "good behavior" from clients). #2 might be impossible to enforce in reality. TFS 4.1 will fix this crash even for poorly behaving "clients".

Hello, would you happen to have any update on the availability of TF 4.1? We're anxious to resolve this for our customer. Thank you.

We don't have a hard date. We're working to get it out ASAP.

Hi again, it's been a few weeks, would you happen to have an update on the availability of TF 4.1? Thanks.

I was reminded of this thread after I was reminded of the complexities of my own physical embodiment when, after looking at a bright light and closing my eyes, I can see small pieces of dust wander across the surface of my eyeball.

My mind wanders like the dust, as it does when I ponder life on Mars. The red glow backdrop, my eyelids, on which the dust wander reminds me of a Martian sunrise. I hear a voice. "Are those translucent jagged particles pieces of dust? Or are they single-cell lifeforms, symbiotes, friends, with whom I share my body? Is my whole a composition of these simple particles?" My mind wanders further. "What is the mechanism by which a bright light makes the dust evident? Is the bright light not illuminating, but somehow *activating* these usually-dormant symbiotic life forms?"

My senses are brought to sharp focus with a voice, not in my head, but from my headphones: "Alan, is that card still in the blocked column?" The tower of whimsical thoughts, oscillating between outward and inward observations, between the particles and my soul, collapses immediately.

"No" I say. "TF 4.1 has not yet been released and that card must remain blocked"

Any update on the availablity of TF 4.1? Thanks.

Points for creativity. This is the first "is it ready yet?" post that made me genuinely laugh.

It's coming soon. We've had a feature freeze for about a month and half, and we're doing a final sweep of outstanding bugs and packaging of the release.

Oh, hello 😀

Any update on when we can expect TF 4.1? Thank you.

We're working to get it out ASAP.

This is fixed in the latest version of the TFS 4.1.3. Get it here: https://wyday.com/limelm/api/#turbofloat
