e-mail controlSolved

Hi,When we create new activation keys, we don't always have a valid e-mail address for our clients, so we just save the client's names in the e-mail field and we could search for those names using asterisk(*) in the advanced search form. When we tried a search for a client today we were asked to enter a valid e-mail address, so we are assuming you added a new control on that field. We find this control unnecessary and it will cause a lot of problems for us since our client database is large and we don't have valid e-mails for all of them.It would be great if you would just remove that control and leave things as they were before.

Thank you

We just fixed it. Sorry about that.

The bug was a result of browser-side validation of the "email input" on the advanced search page (because an asterisk is not a valid email). So, we just disabled the browser-side validation on newer browsers.

Thanks for reporting that.

I'm still having this problem as of 5:30 PST. I'm using IE 11.192.16299.0 and Firefox 58.0. I use the email field in the same way as the original poster. Every time I try to create a new license or make changes to an existing license I am forbidden due to the new need to "please enter an email address."

OK, for non-email address data use custom license fields: https://wyday.com/limelm/help/license-features/

The email address field has always filtered email data. We've recently improved it so it will follow closer to the email spec.

Thanks for the prompt reply and the quick fix. The advanced search page is working as great as it was before. As the previous poster mentioned, when we try to create new activation keys now, we are required to fill in a valid e-mail address. You suggested the creation of custom fields for non e-mail data which is the obvious solution. But the problem is that we already have a considerable number of activation keys that contain clients names in the e-mail field, and for the research feature we will have to filter the keys by the e-mail field then - if the filter fails - by the custom field. This is will create a lot of confusion and waste of precious time.I think that most of the users will agree that this e-mail control when creating new keys is not really important and that you can remove it without causing any harm. If you keep it otherwise, it will break the ease of use of the web interface of LimeLM that most of us users are used to.So would you please remove this control and make happy users everywhere.

Thanks

I agree with Leadersoft wholeheartedly. We have 5+ years of licenses using the email field without actually putting an email address in there. We have a process around the way it's been and it is now broken. Will you please remove the email address restriction?

OK. We've removed the newer browser-side restriction on email fields for product key creation / editing, etc.

Thank you very much !

Thank you!
