Disabled network adptersSolved

Hello all,

our client gets the following message "There are networkadapters on the system that are disabled ...". They get the message in ta.Activate(), we are using version TurboActivate v4.0.9.6.

We checked several things with the IT dept of our client:

There are no disabled networkadapters.Running: Microsoft Windows 7 (build 7601: service pack 1).They run the application as user (admin rights is not possible). They are running the app on a physical machine.

i checked several posts on the forum but could not find anything sofar...

Any ideas?

regards

Arie

Answer

If you're using the latest version (which you say you are), and the customer is saying TA is reporting that there are disabled network adapters, the I would recommend having them upgrade their drivers for their network adapters. (Open Device Manager, view the network adapters and google each adapter name -- you'll be able to find the drivers on each manufacturer's website).

That's the most common fault -- namely, old or broken drivers.

Also, the easiest way to fix things is to run your app or TurboActivate Wizard as admin (from the FAQ): https://wyday.com/limelm/help/faq/#disabled-adapters

So, they should reconsider that option.

Hello Wyatt,

tnx for the reply, I was already afraid of this. The thing is we're talking about a very large company (100k+ staff), and there are planning to use a lot of licenses. i'm a little bit scared 🙂 to ask them to upgrade a massive amount of machines just because of this issue. We're now in the testing phase, so I can ask IT to check this, but it's a big IT dept with loads of rules etc. so I'm not sure of the outcome.

How do other clients handle these kind of issues?

Well, you're not asking them to upgrade the machines (that would be requiring them to upgrade to Windows 10, which from a security standpoint alone, would be a smart idea, but it's not required at all). All I'm telling you to do, if for this particular malfunctioning computer update the *network drivers*, and then try again.

And if that doesn't work, run the command I gave you. It will highlight exactly which adapters are actually disabled. (Chances are they actually do have an adapter disabled).

Hello Wyatt,

I received their network list today, can I send that to you via email, so you can have a look at it?

regards

Arie

Sure, you can send it to us and we'll take a look at it.

Hello Wyatt,

just to make sure 🙂, did you received the email with attachment?

tnx

Arie

Sorry, yes, I just had a chance to look at it (we're crazy busy preparing for several rollouts).

They have a device called "F5521gw Mobile Broadband Driver" that is disabled. They have a couple of options:

1. Enable it.

2. Run TurbActivate (your app) as an admin, and it will enable it briefly read the device details, and then disable it.

or...

3. Use a modern version of Windows (8, 8.1, or 10) and they can leave it disabled and TurboActivate can still read the hardware details without needing to touch it.

Hello Wyatt,

disabling the adapter did the trick, thanks for that...Now a next issue comes along, the also did not have a sufficient internet connection so the needed an off line registration. That worked ok. However we use various Custom Fields, and one those fields was not set correctly, we changed that ofcourse, but since it's offline it does not read the custom fields again.

How can we solve that?

regards

Arie

This is covered here: https://wyday.com/limelm/help/license-features/#change

For this customer, have them generate a new offline activation request and send them a new offline activation response.

Hello Wyatt,

Tnx again for the answer,

to prevent the connection issue, are there, in your experience, methods we can give to the customer to prevent the connection issues (is there a common issue)?

this ofcourse besides the reissuing of the license?

the reason for this question is to make life easier for the endusers.

regards

Arie

The best way to prevent a connection issue is to not block our activation servers. By default all machines will have unrestricted access to our activation servers. End-users have to actively go out of their way to block us. So, tell them to not do that.

Or if they have restrictive internet policies they can us to their whitelist.

Or they can continue to use offline activations. It's up to them.

your activation servers that is basically only "wyday.com", so if that's no longer blocked/added to the whitelist then the problem should be solved?

the funny thing is they said that they could reach it but then again they also said there was no disabled adapter 🙂.

>> "so if that's no longer blocked/added to the whitelist then the problem should be solved?"

Yep.

>> "the funny thing is they said that they could reach it but then again they also said there was no disabled adapter"

Yeah. The FAQ covers the best way to do it. Of course it requires them to actually follow the steps: https://wyday.com/limelm/help/faq/#internet-error
