Custom Field Default Value for Trials

I'm attempting to create a new custom license field for a product but am unclear how it will behave.

The comment beneath the "default value" field reads: "Set a default value that this custom license field will have if the value is left blank when creating new product keys"

I'm unclear how this value will behave for trials. For trials, will it still use the default value?

I'd like to have a checkbox default to "checked" but I also want it to default to checked for trials.
