Unverified trialsAnswered

Hi,

A program was initially run in an unverified trial mode but somehow changed to verified trial. What are the reasons that it later implicitly switched to a verified trial mode? Does running TurboActivate do that? Could you please provide links to where this behavior is documented?

Also, how can I make sure that it doesn't switch to a verified trial?

Answer

Yes, running the TurboActivate Wizard will automatically upgrade the trial to a verified trial.

Honestly, don't use unverified trials. They're easily reset.

Verified trials are superior in every way.

What does TurboActivate Wizard have to do with when and how trial periods are started? Isn't it a protected software's job to decide how to start the trial?

I know you recommend verified trials but since the functionality (unverified trials) still exists in LimeLM it should work correctly. Switching silently to a verified trial is not right.

Unverified trials make sense for software where other trial limitations are in place other than time limits.

The TurboActivate Wizard is completely optional. If you don't want it, don't use it. However if you do use it, by default it starts a verified trial the first time it is run.

You can always create your own interface using the API. Feel free to modify things as you need.

We still recommend never using unverified trials for the many reasons listed in the trials article. See our help articles.
