Which files are safe to delete? The definitive post!

(I've searched for these answers and have seen answers in bits and pieces, but would like to see them all laid out with clarity)

I've updated my software from old version B to the newest version, C. wyUpdate works wonderfully, everyone is happy.

What can I clean up?

Here are the files that still exist:

1) The folder containing version A program. (local)

2) The folder containing version B program. (local)

3) The folder containing version C program. (local)

3) Version A to Version B .wyu files (local)

4) Version B to Version C .wyu files (local)

5) all versions to Version B .wyu file (local)

6) all versions to Version C .wyu file (local)

7) Version A to Version B .wyu files (server)

8) Version B to Version C .wyu files (server)

9) all versions to Version B .wyu file (server)

10) all versions to Version C .wyu file (server)

11) did I forget any? 🙂

Assuming I **don't** care about backups, and I **only** care about my users getting the most current update (and future updates), what can I delete?

Keep all original files, the *.wys, and all *.wyu files that update to the latest version (in your case, version C).

Delete any *.wyu files that go to an older version (in your case version B).

Wyatt,

Thank you so much for the reply!

Just to be clear this means I can delete :

1) The folder containing version A of the program. (local)

2) The folder containing version B of the program. (local)

Correct?

No. That's why I said "Keep all original files". wyBuild needs the original files in order to build patches from the old versions to the latest version.

Thank you for the clarity, love the product, I'm so glad I didn't have to code an updater myself.

I'm glad to hear that. 🙂
