E_COM ErrorAnswered

Hi we have a customer who is receiving the error E_COM when they try to enter a Trial key for the software and I can't find any information about it on the forums or in the Help section. Can you point me to where I can read about it or let me know what usually causes this error?

Thanks!

Answer

I would be shocked if you're getting TA_E_COM. Unless you're using a very old version of TurboActivate (or their machine is *very* broken).

You're likely getting 0x11 (hex – TA_E_IN_VM) not 11 (decimal – TA_E_COM).

All information about errors and functions is described in detail in TurboActivate.h.

Either way, much more information is needed

I have a client with that issue too today, here is link to image of failure:

Following the header file instructions below

Note client did say he previoulsy did use Windows Remote but not doing that now…

This error can also be caused by the user (or another program) disabling
the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service. Make sure the "Startup type"
is set to Automatic and then start the service.
"

Type Services in WIndows Search
Locate Windows Management Instrumentation
Note I am in manual here and it works, but try to start the service (right mouse menu)

The screenshot is so blurry it's impossible to read. However if that service cannot be started it means they have a virus (or many) that has completely buggered their machine. They should save the files they can save (and quarantine them) and do a clean re-install.

I also have the 0x11 error on my machine. (when i allow vm it works, but i dont use a vm).

Any ideas what can I do?
