Suggestion: make an activation key valid for X days

Hi guys,

Today a sales rep. asked me if it was possible to give some customers a product activation key but that MUST be used withing a given number of days, just like a trial extension.

I thought it was a good idea and so I'm sending this suggestion. This would be interesting if such a thing was possible for online activation keys. If a key is out of date, the activation is refused. Then a search could be made to delete all "dead" keys.

Best regards,Alexandre Leclerc

Is the point of this request to do verified activations? If so, then we're already working on a better version in TurboActivate 4.0.

If that's not what you're requesting, then I can't see the possible benefit to offering keys that are bought but then can't be activated. You could always implement this yourself using custom license fields. And revoking / removing a key that hasn't been activated by date X. But again, I'm not sure why you would want to implement this. I don't see how this could benefit you or your customers.

Hi Wyatt,

This is what I told to the guys (and also suggested to implement it ourselves).

They explained to me that they are distributing (or giving away in a drawing) free licences (full licences as if they bought it) to prospects but they must use it before a given time else the licence will not be valid anymore. So they give away but must be used in a given amount of time.

I have my personal opinions on this, but I told them I would send the suggestion. If you find no use in it, just discard it! 🙂 I told them that all they have to do is take note of the keys and check themselves if they have been activated when their "expiry" date has been reached and simply revoke/delete the keys that had no activation at all. And this they shall do.

Hey, I'm eager to see that version 4.0!

Best regards,Alexandre Leclerc

Yeah, I don't think we'll be implementing this. You could implement it rather easily on your side, though.

Hey, I'm eager to see that version 4.0!

I'm glad. 🙂

We hope to get it out soon.
