New wyBuild/wyUpdate release?

I'm looking for a patch updater for our application and came across wyBuild recently. Looking through the forum a number of questions have been answered with 'that will be in the next release', so before I start looking at wyBuild in detail I was just wondering if wyBuild is being actively maintained and if there is already a possible date or time frame for the next release?

Thanks

Yes, wyBuild is being actively developed. The next version is coming later this year.

I was also looking for an application updater solution back in 2011. We had a working, home grown though fully automated (C#, PowerShell, WiX, MS Build and Microsoft Updater Application Block v2.0 based) auto updating solution built into our application but I wanted to move away from that legacy code to a more modern solution and got a license to try out WyBuild in Dec 2011. However, we decided not to integrate WyBuild into our application due to lack of updates and a concrete roadmap for future releases. I check the forums every now and then for updates but I havent seen anything substantial yet. Our need is not urgent or critical and the old solution is still working for us but I would like to move away from it someday.

Hey Ahmed,

A new release is coming later this year. The delays (and the reasons for them) have been discussed in multiple other threads. I don't see a reason to reiterate them here.

Regarding a roadmap: we don't (and won't) publicly post our roadmaps for any of our products. They exist, of course, but they're for us to use and plan internally. That has been our policy from the start of wyDay.

Why? Because we don't exist in a vacuum: competitors exist and use publicly posted information to get a "leg up" on us. Occasionally you might see a forum post or a blog post mentioning future features, but that's as far as we go with publicly posted information.

Competitive advantages are important.

To be brutally honest, you've been saying that for a long time. No updates since September 2012 is definitely not a "competitive advantage", especially when wyBuild license holders have been requesting features for years now with no results.

The feedback is appreciated.

Been promised updates by end of year for 3 years now. Not sure how your measuring a year but must be light year.

🙂

That was the plan at the time, but yes, it was pushed back. We don't update the dozen of so forum threads when we make internal decisions like that.

Dont get me wrong, this is a great product and very solid, I am just needing a way to create the wyp file from commandline. This is holding up my progress of a totally automated system. Boss keeps asking why we use a product that is no longer being developed. How do I answer that when its been several years since the last release.

You could put up a countdown clock (start it with the value of the U.S deficit (dollars converted to minutes) and count backwards, that should be about right for the next release 🙂.

I just dont want you to forget that you do have dedicated customers that are patiently waiting for the delivery of another great product.

Shoot me an email at wyatt@wyday.com and I'll send you an Alpha version of the next version of wyBuild with creating *.wyp from commandline enabled. This Alpha version will be complete by mid to late September.

Has the ability to create project file from Command Line been released yet as would also like this functionality?
