Hey, I was just wondering a few questions:1. If I buy LimeLM, do I get the source code to the system? Or is it strictly closed source.
It's closed source. If you buy the server side product (LimeLM for your Servers) you do get the un-encrypted php source. But the server-side binaries (the parts that do the hard lifting) and the TurboActivate (the activation client) will remain closed source.
There are source code examples that show how to integrate TurboActivate with your C#, VB.NET, C, C++ apps.
2. If I use LimeLM in my application, as .net languages can be decompiled easily, (For instance, the .Net Reflector), What is going to stop people from just decompiling my executables and re-compiling the source without the Lime protection?
If you're running your app without obfuscating your code, then there's nothing stopping that from happening. To obfuscate your code use any one of the free obfuscators:
There are many other options, just google ".net obfuscators".
That being said, LimeLM, like all anti-piracy, only prevents piracy. But this prevention is enough to stop the people who will happily pirate your app if it's easier steal than to buy. The "casual" pirates.
LimeLM & TurboActivate makes it difficult for pirates to steal. And we're continuing to improve these products to make it every harder to crack. We also track cracking attempts like a hawk. This lets us respond quickly if TurboActivate does get cracked (it hasn't yet).
Side note: If anyone promises you uncrackable anti-piracy, then know you're being lied to. If it exists on a computer it can be cracked. The point is to make it such a hassle to steal your product that it make financial sense for people & companies to buy your product rather than steal it.
