vmware thinapp

I am wrapping my app with thin app and I have tried to update using wyupdate... the control downloads the update jjust fine but when it launches wyupdate.exe or the restart it flashes and starts downloading the updates again ... the app never launches the new update correctly . 🤔

The short answer: don't use VMWare ThinApp.

The longer answer is that you have 2 choices:

  1. Don't use ThinApp (recommended)
  2. Use ThinApp, but put wyUpdate.exe and the client.wyc file outside of your ThinApp executable.

In short, you can't have wyUpdate.exe within your ThinApp executable because wyUpdate won't be able to properly update it.

Does this make sense?

Makes sense... just wondering if this problem had an easy answer ... I can't seem to start the wyupdate.exe or use the control from inside of the thin app if the wyupdate.exe is outside...

(note) I pretty much am stuck using thinapp... The software is going to Chinese clients.. I am facing all kinds of problems with different setups and profiles ... with thinapp I can run the app with no problems, but now can't seem to get the app to update in a predictable manner..

Thanks for any help... Sam wrote:> The short answer: don't use VMWare ThinApp.> > The longer answer is that you have 2 choices:> >

😐

well, if I am getting you correctly Sbmerge could be of a help to you. Check the following post which explain how to use it at: http://www.virtualizationteam.com/virtualization-vmware/vmware-thinapp/updating-vmware-thinapp-mechanisms.html

Hope this help,Erick

Or, as Sam described, just have wyUpdate.exe and the client.wyc file sit outside the thin app wrapped application. Updating will work like any other app.
