Roadmap

Hi folks,

is there any chance to get a roadmap of features coming in the next versions. In many of the posts in the last months you guys mentioned some release dates of 2.6.15, 2.7, 2.8 and even 3.0.

For me there's currently the question of how long to wait for what feature to decide on how many effort to put into this as we create a lot of stuff around your software to handle windows updates in sync with wyBuild stuff.

Regards Stephen

Hey Stephen,

We don't publish a public roadmap. We're wrapping up 2.6.15 development now (only a day or 2 more). 2.7 will come before christmas (early December if all our testing goes relatively smoothly).

What feature are you waiting for? We might have it already done and we can release an intermediate release (or a beta release) just for you.

I wouldn't mind testing. The biggest thing for me is to stop the text from rolling in and out. This confused my customers so I had to use other means to let them know they were up to date.

But if you need someone to run through tests, I am volunteering. Let me know where to sign up!

We designed the AU like that because we didn't want it to take too much of the user's attention. But we've added the option to disable the animation with the AutomaticUpdater coming with 2.6.15.

Is there a revised schedule on this?

Nope -- we just had some show-stopper bugs. We could've released it, but then everyone would be facing the bugs 😉

It's coming soon. Once all our tests pass.

On the topic of roadmaps we've been talking this over here. After 2.6.15 we're going back to the "bite-size" monthly release schedule we've had previously. That way we can roll out bugfixes quicker and get a steady stream of features rather than having to wait months for bugfixes & features.

If you want I can send you the new AutomaticUpdater that allows you to disable the animation. Just email me at support@wyday.com.

Any progress on 2.6.15? 😐

Yes -- we're adding the ability to start & stop dependent services. Right now wyUpdate fails under this particular case (hence the delay).

Is there a way to mark certain updates as "critical", so user would be forced to aply them, or else application would just quit.

This ability is coming with wyBuild 2.7 -- that is, the ability to "mark" updates in different update channels.

But right now you can do this in your app. You can either have a simple file on your website that your app could check to see if an app is critical and if so bail out of your app. Or you can append "-critical" to your version name. Then when there's a new update available you can force the user to update.

There are a bunch of ways you can do it until 2.7 comes out.

Like seriously, still no release of 2.6.15? If it's being delayed by more and more feature creep, that could mean a bunch of new bugs when your customers finally get it. If you can't do more frequent releases, maybe you should at least publish monthly betas so people can give feedback and have a better idea what to expect. :-/

We're working hard. This is almost entirely a bugfix release. And yes we've had private-beta tester to ensure we don't introduce new bugs.

Sorry for the delays. Like I said earlier, after 2.6.15 we're switching to bite-size releases.
