wyUpdate.exe Error 0xC0000135

Hi,

I just released a patch using wyUpdate for the first time today.1 out of 28 users is seeing this error that happens as soon as wyUpdate starts up, before the wyUpdate screen is displayed.

wyUpdate.exe - Application ErrorThe application failed to initialize properly (0xC0000135). Click OK to close the application.

The wyUpdate.exe we are using is an un-modified version 2.6.14.

Any ideas on the cause?

Thanks,

mike

Hey Mike,

We can't reproduce that here -- can you reproduce it? Also, are you using wyUpdate as a standalone updater or are you using it in tandem with the AutomaticUpdater?

If you're using wyUpdate as a standalone updater, with what commandline options are you starting it?

Lastly, what OS is wyUpdate running on when it fails?

Hi Sam, thanks for the quick reply!

I can't make it happen on my pc's, but it happens on the customer's pc every time.

Standalone

No command line options are used.

XP Sp3

Can we remotely debug with this user? It shouldn't take more than an hour of their time.

I appreciate the offer, but I just figured it out.

I googled 0xC0000135 and found another program with the error and the problem was that they did not have .Net Framework installed. (Sorry, I usually hit google first with these kinds of issues. All I can say is It's monday. And raining.)

I installed .Net Framework 3.5 sp1 and now all is well.

When I contacted my customer contact he said he just heard from another user who got a message on a different pc that referred to the .Net Framework not being installed. On the first pc, there was no such message.

Ah, ok -- I should've googled first. wyUpdate requires .NET 2.0 or above be installed on the customers computer.
