My short review of LimeLM after 3 months of using it for commercial product

Hi,

So I am using LimeLM for 3 months now and I would like others who are considering it for their software know what I think. In short it's amazing and super easy to use. It saved me a lot of time and turned what I thought would huge pain in the project into actually pleasant activity. To the point:

1)The web interface is great: -you can search for keys/emails fast -you see all the relevant info: IPs/dates of registration/versions/activations left -changing defaults for deactivations/VM usage/number of activations etc. is basically two clicks -I was planning to use API but I didn't because it's too easy to do it manually (we are selling somewhat expensive product in 250$-1000$ range so we don't get tens of buyers a day); I actually enjoy logging into the admin panel and looking at the list of licenses with activations etc. (who uses 2, who uses 1, what was latest activity).

2)Support is great

I had some problems when I started. Support was always to do the point and helpful even if they disagreed with me what is important. I always managed to get it to work or do anything I wanted. It wasn't the case with licensing software I've used before.

3)Error codes/info are great. I always know why activation failed (VM, limit exceeded, some service on Windows not running). It makes supporting customers way easier than I thought it would be.

4)Options

As of now we are just using activatoins/deactivations without trials but I toyed a bit with various options and it's very easy to access the functionality. You can set length of trial, "grace periods" when the product isn't connected to the internet (that's the one I am thinking about using) or you can just use it as one time activation with the product working offline since then.

5)Pricing/billing/changing plans

Again, it's always a one click. Once we got more activations than Solo plans allows we changed to basic with one click. We will likely hit the limit again this year and I expect it will be one click again to change to Plus. The free account is enough to test everything and play around with activations/deactivations and all other functionality.

6)the only thing I didn't like

Using it on Windows with MinGW/GCC is a bit of a pain and officially not supported although I managed to get it working anyway (although not with static linking).

Overall the feel is one of "programmers for programmers" product. The authors try to help even if they don't sugercoat their opinions sometimes. This is way more useful and productive than "be nice and don't say anything honest" kind of support you see more and more these days.

I am sorry if it's not a best place to post reviews but as someone who knew almost nothing about licensing solutions before (I've used one about 6 years ago and didn't like it) I know it's not easy to make your mind based on googling. I know one can be discouraged by not too fancy looking website and could miss what is fantastic product underneath.

Highly recommended!

Couldn't agree more. Wyatt and the team know what they are doing and it seems like they know their audience so well. The only thing I wish they supported more is OSX, but I'm sure it's probably coming.

Well done guys!
