Can't connect to update server over proxy

Hi Wyatt, hi Sam,

First of all, very nice product! But we have a problem to connect to our http-download-site over a proxy. Without the proxy everything works fine.

We have set up the proxy settings in the Internet Explorer and we can connect to the Internet and to our http-download-site in the Internet Explorer. But if we start the AutomaticUpdater in our program or the wyUpdate.exe (version 2.6.4.0), it cannot connect to the http-download-site. It returns Error trying to save file: Error downloading "http://xxx.xx/wyserver.wys": Couldnt connect to remote server (free translation). But if we call the wyUpdate.exe in command line with the explicit proxy address like wyUpdate.exe /proxy:http://proxyserver:80/ it can connect to the http-download-site and finds the updates.

I have read that wyUpdate normally takes the IE proxy settings, but I think it doesnt in our case. Do you have any idea?

Thank you.

Let me check into this. I'll get back to you.

There was a bug in the detection code. Thanks for spotting this - we've fixed it for the next version.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know when you will release the next version?

Another question, which actually belongs in a separate topic/thread, sorry. Is it possible to update the wyUpdate.exe?I mean, when we release our product with the current version 2.6.4.0 of wyUpdate.exe (installer) and you have fixed the proxy problem in version 2.6.5.0, do we have to release a new installer version of our product with the actual wyUpdate.exe or is it possible to update the local wyUpdate.exe in our product programfiles folder by AutomaticUpdater?Ive read that there is a self-update function, but I don't get it so far. What will be updated when? Will the local wyUpdate.exe automatically be replaced with the newest version from your server?

Thank you.

We plan to release it by Friday this week. (Assuming no delays or unexpected bugs).

The short answer: wyUpdate checks for new versions of itself when it updates your software. If there's a new update available it downloads and installs it before installing your software.

You should also rebuild wyUpdate and include the latest wyUpdate and client.wyc with your installer if you're creating a new installer. See The New release workflow.

That's exactly it.
