Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component

hi,

this error came up just now. computer is running windows 7 ultimate and fully updated.

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component

it shows during the update process while what appears to be wyupdate copying the files to the local installation folder

please help

It sounds like you're executing a file and or registering a COM component and it failed. I need more information:

1. What's throwing the error? Is it wyUpdate? Is it crashing? Or is it showing an error message? What's the full error/or crash report?

2. Are you executing files? Is that causing the error?

3. Are you registering and/or unregistering com components? Is that causing the error?

4. Can you reproduce the error?

thanks for the prompt reply.

it was a dumb mistake. was able to double check everything, apparently, i typed wyupdate.lnk instead of wyupdate.exe when creating a shortcut.
