No, use HTTP or use an FTP user/password that has read-only access to your server.
hi, i decided to host my own updates using filezilla. the configurations are ok and my team can download updates well. my only issue is whenever my server is down, it shows my ftp password. is there a way to hide the password when using ftp? I am using this format: ftp://"username then password"@updateserver........com
No, use HTTP or use an FTP user/password that has read-only access to your server.
thank you for your reply sam.
http server is not an option right now. so if i use ftp, the password will really show?
also, i have multiple ftp servers and my plan was, if one is down, the client will look for other online servers and download from there. what i noticed was, if the first download server is down, it throws an error already.
is there a way to do this? thanks
ftp sites by their very nature will have their passwords visible (because the password needs to be sent to the server to gain access to the files requested).
So, as I said, create a "read-only" username/password and restrict them to a "downloads" folder if you want to use password protected FTPs. In other words, don't give the ftp user/pass unrestricted access to your servers.

Yes, add more sites to the download sites list. If the first download site fails to download the next one will be downloaded.
