FTP as download site

Hi,

I want wyUpdate to download updates using FTP. So I have used this as download site:ftp://user@domain.com:password@ftp.domain.com/update/%file%

But it always receive this error:

Could not parse the URL "ftp://user@domain.com:password@ftp.domain.com/update/wiseupdate.wys" - it's either malformed or is an unknown protocol.

It's also not handy that the update shows my FTP password to the end user...

Thanks

Hey Mitch,

You need to URL encode the at sign in the username.

so your download site would look like this:

ftp://user%40domain.com:password@ftp.domain.com/update/%file%

Hi,

it works like a charm now! Thanks!

Is there any way to hide the FTP credentials to the end user?

No, the download site has to be visible (or else how would wyUpdate download the files from your server?). We recommend either using HTTP or using a read-only username access to your FTP.

Hi,

the application that i'm writing is a tool for internal use only, so I don't want it to be exposed on a public http.I understand that wyUpdate needs the FTP password to connect to the server, but I don't get why it needs to be showed to the end user.

Because it's already visible in the client.wyc file. An end-user can just open that file to see the password.
