A couple of questions

Postby timnboys » March 3rd, 2012, 3:48 pm

Can I force updates like clickonce does? also I want to know if I can put wyupdate in a setup file(visual studio Installer) like you build in visual studio 2010 and make sure that I do not have to worry about people using an older version of my software because they got a older setup file and they install an older version and they do not have the current update and so when they install the older setup file they will automatically get the new version instead of the old version installed because then they would not have an older version installed even with an older version setup installer, is this possible?

You can force updates a few ways. If you're using wyUpdate as a standalone updater you can check for updates on every start and if there are updates available then launch wyUpdate to begin the update process: How to Silently Check for Updates

You can do something similar with the AutomaticUpdater. However, the AutomaticUpdater works better if you let it run in the background. That is, let the user use your old version while the new version is downloaded, extracted, and patched, then install the new version.

Also I have to ask you about the updates of wybuild before I buy it because I was wondering if you get free updates for life for wybuild? Because it would be costly to have to pay for the upgrades everytime their is a update available.

"Minor" updates are free (eg. 2.x to 2.y). "Major" upgrades are discounted (e.g. 2.x to 3.x). We plan to release 3.x in a year or more.

I have to ask you another question, I use multiple user accounts and computers to develop and I am the only one who is developing and I was wondering if I brought 1 license and I use it across all of my computers and user accounts but I am the only one using the wybuild to build updates on these multiple user accounts and computers, will I have to buy multiple licenses to use on all of these computers and user accounts even though I am the only one that is using wybuild? is it possible to use wybuild on all of the user accounts and computers I have and still only have to buy only 1 license and use it on all of these computers and user accounts because I am going to be the only one using wybuild?because I do not want to spend alot of money for licenses because I am going to be the only one who is developing the software.

Hey Tim,

If you're the only developer using wyBuild you can purchase just 1 license for all your computers.

If you have any other questions I'll be glad to help.
