The byte-patching feature is something I was really looking forward... I was even looking for an application that did that long before knowing about InstantUpdate.

All of the bare necessity updating features are in the wyUpdate Express Designer. Namely, checking for updates, downloading full "zipped" updates, handling Vista UAC, and updating files & registry.

The Professional version adds all the nice-to-have features: byte-patching & version management are the "big two".

The Express edition would probably be enough for most one man teams with small products (1 Mb - 2 Mb).

Even if I had, I wouldn’t buy it as I would be using it on my applications, which are free, it wouldn’t make sense.

The wyUpdate Client is open source. This Client is the part you distribute with your programs. The wyUpdate Designer (Express & Professional editions) are just used to build the updates and manage your software.

Because the Client is open source you'll never be left out in the cold, so to speak, like Microsoft Office *.DOC file format.

Too bad it's not free :( I would probably benefit from some of the Professional version features but I don't have that kind of money. Even if I had, I wouldn't buy it as I would be using it on my applications, which are free, it wouldn't make sense. This is a reason, though I'm probably not the group of people you are targeting this application to...

Anyway, it seems like a great product. Haven't tested it yet, but I will in the future, if I'll use it or not, it will depend if the features I would really benefit from are only available in the Pro version or not.
